Center for Human Development is a community-based organization offering a spectrum of services for at-risk youth, individuals, families and communities in Contra Costa County. With our dedicated staff and volunteers, we provide wellness and prevention programs aimed at empowering people and promoting positive social growth such as wellness, youth leadership, conflict resolution, parenting skills, and other challenges facing the community. Strengthening Families Program aims to increase the family bond by incorporating lessons about family bonding, how to listen when your youth talks, and setting boundaries. The SFP program does not focus on just the parent or caregivers; it involves the entire family, including the youth. SFP main goal is to increase protective factors of families by encouraging families to build stronger bonds by spending more time together, creating traditions, and communicating more. By strengthening protective factors, we in turn will reduce risk factors that threaten families and communities.

Qualifications: We only work with human and social services agencies and not directly with families. Cake4Kids is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides free, custom birthday cakes to underserved children through partnerships developed with social and human services agencies – homeless children in shelters, children who are victims of domestic violence or human trafficking, children in foster care, and youth living at the poverty level. Serves West Contra Costa County. Child and Family Therapy Services – includes play therapy as well as “dyadic” therapy (caregiver and child together) for children 0-6 years. Therapy services help improve family dynamics by supporting attachment bonds between parents and their children; by teaching parenting and nurturing skills; and by helping parents address their own childhood traumas.
