Substance abuse distorts how one thinks, feels, and relates to other people. Substance abuse can happen to anyone. Over-achievers are often abusers. If, for any reason, you are concerned about a drug or drinking problem and want help for yourself or someone you know, the following agencies may be of assistance:

One Door to Wellness Recovery & Resiliency. Our Alcohol and Other Drugs program offers a comprehensive approach to providing substance abuse prevention, treatment and recovery services for Contra Costa residents. Our continuum of care includes detoxification, outpatient counseling, residential programs, services for pregnant women and youth, and narcotic replacement therapy programs. We offer a broad range of community-based programs that are culturally competent and client driven.
Substance Abuse Treatment for Pregnant and Parenting Women
The intake of alcohol and drugs while pregnant can cause birth defects (i.e. brain damage, low birth weight, fetal alcohol syndrome, etc.) Babies born with infant drug addiction must subsequently undergo drug withdrawal. These babies are difficult to care for and, consequently, are at high risk for child abuse. Alcohol/drug abuse can also cause premature births, miscarriages, and tends to increase a baby’s risk for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). Those who are pregnant and using drugs should seek help from the following agencies:
